Effect of Arctium lappa Extract on Serum Lipid Compositions in Dietary Hyperlipidemic Rats

Abstract

|
The Semen of Arctium lappa L. (Compositae) which has been used as the antiinflammatory, detoxifying and diuretic agents in the folk remedies. We have investigated the effect of fractions of MeOH extract of Arctium lappa on hyperlipidemic rats induced by fat-rich diet. After administration of petroleum ether fraction, CHCl₃ fraction, BuOH fraction and water fractions to hyperlipidemic rats for two weeks, the hyperlopidemic parameters including total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, phospholipid and total lipid levels in serum were measured. The BuOH fraction and water fraction of Arctii Semen exhibited remarkerbly inhibitory effect on total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, phospholipid and total lipid levels.
